Masters Cleaner and Preserver Is Ideal for Scale Modelling

If you have taken up model building as a hobby then a quick tip on painting will be ideal as we have been doing a bit of that. This is about cleaning your brushes using Masters Brush cleaner and preserver. It's a very good product and I paid about 6-8 pounds for it. You can find it by searching on eBay and other online shops, and since it's not a modelling thing, you won't find it at the normal modelling stores.

This modelling tutorial will demonstrate using the Winsor & Newton series 7 paintbrushes as you really want to take care of them. Start by cleaning the paint brush in water but note this will only clean it so far as water is not a preserver. Then clean in the preserver soap but make sure the bristles do not go in the opposite direction or bend them as this will mess the bristles. What you need is to clean in circles without bending the bristles all the way back.

Afterwards, rub the brush on the back of your hand to clean it further. You will notice that the preserver will have a tint of colour that you had used in your scale modelling. Take the end of the brush in your fingers and pull out any foamy stuff and dip in the water again. Simply keep repeating this process until the cleaner turns white and you cannot see any kind of colours at all.

You actually want to clean where the bristles go into the paintbrush and not just at the ends. This is because brushes tend to get damaged quickest as the paint dries where the bristles go into the brush. Wipe the cleaner off till it looks nice and clean and then dip the brush into the water, and clean it off as much as you can for your next hobby.

At this point, it doesn't actually matter if you clean it with water. You can leave some of the cleaner on the brush as it's a preserver and will actually preserve it.

The last bit is to make a point using your fingers. I prefer to use my lips instead as the saliva helps put a good point on the paint brush. Make sure to put the guard back on to keep the paint brush nice, clean and preserved.

So there you have it, you can now go into your scale modelling hobby with clean paint brushes that will work efficiently and magnificently.
