Creating a basic diorama is an engaging project that involves using layers of materials within a container to depict a scene. The process generally involves planning the scene, gathering materials, constructing the base and background, and finally adding detailed elements and figures. 

Materials & Tools

Basic materials often include items you can find around the house or at a local craft store. 

• Container/Base: A shoebox (turned on its side), cardboard, or a small wooden base.
• Landform Materials: Modeling clay, plaster, or paper-mâché for hills and rocks.
• Adhesives: PVA glue (Elmer’s glue), wood glue, or a hot glue gun.
• Color & Texture: Acrylic paints, markers, construction paper, felt, sand, gravel, or soil.
• Details: Miniature figurines, small toys, twigs, leaves, fabric scraps, or cotton balls.
• Tools: Scissors, craft knife (for adults), paintbrushes, and possibly fishing line or thread for hanging items.
