Model makers use various tools and techniques to create realistic rivets on scale models, particularly for aircraft, military vehicles, and ships. The most common tools are manual “rivet makers” that score or stamp rivet details into the plastic, resin, or metal surfaces. 

Rivet embossing and marking tools 

These hand tools use interchangeable wheels or discs with saw-toothed edges to create recessed or raised rivet lines. The size of the teeth determines the spacing of the rivets, allowing for different scales.
